How to build a tower system using GroPockets.
How can these little brown balls replace soil, or a peat-based potting mix? What sort of irrigation strategies work and why? We explain how to get the most out of hydroton (aka expanded clay pebbles / balls) in hydroponics.

Adding up costs, 5$ per pocket sleeve X10 =$50 + shipping.
10' sch40 PVC $16.
A bit of glue, and time.
So roughly $75 a completed tower.
Pluses- The grow method is comparable to DWC but less cost per sq'.
Bright Agrotech towers run bout $62 plus shipping and you need the media fillerbase.
So bout the same in cost per tower.
Pluses- You able to harvest more times from the original planting in Agrotech tower.
The added filtration by the media filler. Adding worms are an extra cost though.
Need to experiment on placement and lighting to see which will give you more yield per area.
Thoughts?
Tom
If you try this and you up with leaks it would be easier to use aquarium silicone as long as pockets are secure than take it apart.
To much porn
How does this figure into the square footage calculations and ratios for grow beds versus fish tank?
OK you've answered my question the other video thanks
"look at that glue squeezing out…its nice and tight. Tight like a tiger"
Folks, do not ever use pvc in any garden application as it is toxic and will leach into your plants. Use polypropylene materials.
when is your next stock in Murray
nice idea on how to save some money by growing own crop, but why don't use a rubber band or tire inner tube rather than waste few dollars on the zip tie which deliver same result.
really an inspirational video.. great job sir.. thanks..
PVC=BAD
The pattern is available from our on-line store

woaw this is top your system, known as I would like to know how to get your plan to map and the drilling of the hole, cordially
The system should be protected from wind in a greenhouse or some other kind of shelter. Protected cropping is the way of the future. If there is enough wind to blow the lettuce out of the tower than there is a host of problems facing the system.
How do you prevent the media in the net pots from falling out for an outdoor application where wind can be a problem?
what's the spacing distance of the towers?
Have you ever tried the OFFERANDO AQUAPONICS
?
A better way to measure their absorption is to place 1 litre of Hydroton in 5 litres of water for 24 hours. Then tip the water out and measure how much liquid remains. My testing shows absorption to be 20%. It's useful to know how much additional nutrient solution will be required.
"Always make sure to wash your balls before putting them to work!"
Here is what I recommend for hydroponics, it has to be ebb and flow (flood table), don't fill the table with hydroton because in between the floods all that water is going to evaporate and cause humidity issues, I say just put your plants into net pots and fill those with hydroton, then get panda plastic and over the flood table with it cutting out holes for your net potted plants. I like this method because I am still using the same small bag of hydroton I bought years ago.
I have a 4 by 2 Ebb & flo tray using clay balls with Gordon blocks. I'm in my 5th week of veg and the girls look great. I have a 600 watts MH light and they love it. My concern is that for the last 5 days the ph in the reservoir has changed from trending up to trending down. Should I be concerned? I'm a first time grower.
Talking about balls, inches and dark places. Great Video. Good infos on those balls mate.
Hi Everest,
I soaked my hydroton in ph 6.0 low nutrient solution for 4 hours. I double checked ph before transplanting my seedlings and it is 8.0pH now. Do you have any ideas why that is?
Thanks so much, Daniel
impossible to understand what you are saying… is your objective speed or to inform?
everyone has a different dialect and your monotone in speed is impossible to understand one word you are saying. SRY you do not have respect for those who take the time to try to listen…
Great video just what I needed. Did you manage to do the follow up video explaining how to clean the clay pebbles with hydrogen peroxide?
Hey Everest. I'm looking at the Ubergro aquaponic system. Are you familiar with it?
Always rinse your balls throughly lol. I kinda love growing cannabis
This channel is amazing. Could you please show us how to reuse hydroton? Thank you very much!
Hey Cliff here. I love your videos. You said something about doing a video on cleaning and something about adding something so the roots would break down, and I think cleaning them? I thank you for everything you Do for us.
btw love your videos..
Whats that white powdery substance around the edge of scale? guess that explains the 1000 words per minute.
Thank you for all of your videos! Is it okay to take a plant in a 4" Rockwool cube and transplant it into a 2 gallon Grow bag with hydroton? Thanks!
Is there a smaller grain size version of these expanded clay pebbles?
Do you think lining the bottoms of my pots with these would be a good idea? I'm using soil as a medium. Thanks!
What would happen if I used pebbles from a lake? Cleaned of course
can i submerged them all the time 24×7?
